The idea was simple: capture the essence of the Canadian Rockies from Calgary to Vancouver. In a world where wildfires, climate change, and human encroachment threatened their splendor, the project aimed to document.

Projects, like shadows, are often elusive and difficult to grasp. They can seem so tangible, so definite, yet they often slip away, leaving behind only a trail of disappointment and frustration. This phenomenon, often referred to as “chasing shadows,” is a common occurrence in the world of work and can be attributed to a variety of factors.
One of the primary reasons projects can feel like shadows is the ever-shifting nature of their goals. What seemed clear and achievable at the outset can quickly become blurred or even obsolete. This can happen due to changes in market conditions, technological advancements, or simply a shift in priorities within the organization. As project teams race to keep up with these moving targets, they can find themselves chasing shadows, never quite able to catch up.
Another contributing factor to the elusive nature of projects is the tendency for teams to become overly focused on the end goal, often at the expense of the process. This can lead to tunnel vision, where teams become so fixated on achieving a specific outcome that they fail to recognize the importance of smaller milestones and iterative progress. As a result, projects can become derailed by unforeseen obstacles or unexpected challenges.
Furthermore, the complexity and interconnectedness of modern projects can make them feel like shadows. With so many stakeholders, dependencies, and potential risks involved, it can be difficult to maintain a clear and consistent vision. This can lead to confusion, miscommunication, and ultimately, a project that feels out of reach.
To avoid the pitfalls of chasing shadows, it is essential for project teams to adopt a more flexible and adaptive approach. This includes being open to changes in scope, embracing iterative development, and maintaining a clear focus on the overall objectives. Additionally, effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders are crucial for ensuring that everyone is aligned and working towards a common goal.
By understanding the challenges of chasing shadows and taking proactive steps to address them, project teams can increase their chances of success and avoid the frustration that comes with chasing elusive goals.
